How to repair old cowlings

A fast and "creative" way repairing old cowlings when they are not available any more. Done so with an old Tiger Moth cowling.

One side was cracked and cut for a certain motor which was changed to a Saito gaser.

So how to rebuild it without making a new mold and investing a lot of time for the job.

The other side was nice and clean and looked symmetric, so I had the idea to use the better side as a positive.

So I used cling film as a separation layer and used some glas layers ont top of the good side.

Next steps are  cut out the bad parts and insert the replacement.

I

after that adding a glas layer on the out and inside

Cutting the excess material and sanding down the edges

R

Applying primer, putty and filler than sanding

preparing for painting after a lot of sanding....
